Make it in China- DIY Kits

For a place where you can buy seemingly anything and have it delivered to your door with a few swipes of your phone, China seems to have no shortage of DIY products both online and offline. And I’m not just talking about self-decorated ita bags and photocard holders, although those do get taken to another…

    Food of the First Month

It’s been a month since I’ve been in Shanghai, and I don’t think I’ve eaten a single disappointing meal. I don’t remember the names of all the places I tried, but I’m going to try and do my best to at least write the area/mall, and maybe come back later to edit it if I…

From San Diego to Shanghai

In November of 2023, I was just one of the many people in the biotechnology field who lost a job. For months, I was on the job hunting grind, tweaking my resume and penning out cover letters in between my part-time job as a martial arts instructor and my hobby musical groups. As time flew by with only a handful of interviews and a pile of automated rejection e-mails to show for it, I started to wonder if it was time for a change of pace. After the nth local biotechnology company announced its next wave of layoffs, I made my decision.

From student, to musician, to scientist and engineer, to martial artist and teacher, to student again. I’m taking a leap to study Mandarin in Shanghai, and I want to document as much as I can of this incredible and exciting journey! However you managed to find me, I hope that you get something out of your visit here, whether its inspiration to take your own new chances in life, or just a little bit of enjoyment from reading my words.
